I currently teach both master’s and doctoral courses as a member of the Counseling Programs, including: Counseling Theories, Practicum, Group Counseling, Process of Counseling, Psychopathology and Intervention Planning, and Transpersonal Psychology.
I directed JMU’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), which provides individual, couple, family and group counseling, along with psychological assessment, to children, adolescents, and adults in the community.
My early career goals included being a rock star; however, the world was not ready for me or my lack of talent, so I decided to study psychology instead. I continue to write and play music in my spare time.
In addition to my teaching at James Madison University, I am an avid sailor and have captained several transatlantic journeys. Recent travel include trips through India, Japan, Sri Lanka, and Thailand to study East/West psychology and mental health service delivery.
I have been recognized by the JMU Mortarboard for Outstanding Teaching.
I have received the following awards:
Mengabier Professorship for Transformative Teaching
Distinguished Scholar - Department of Graduate Psychology
Distinguished Teacher - Department of Graduate Psychology
Scholarly Interests/Research Topics
Intersubjectivity and the Healing Relationship
Humanistic/Dialogical Counseling Process
East/West Psychotherapy and Contemplative Disciplines
