2005 -2006 Academic Year Achievements
The following faculty received certificates at the August 28, 2005 meeting of the Department of Psychology for their outstanding performance last year as determined by the Department’s Head and Personnel Advisory Committee (PAC):

- Kenn Barron, CISAT Distinguished Teacher
- Steve Evans, CISAT Madison Scholar
- Aashir Nasim, CISAT Outstanding Junior Faculty
- Sherry Serdikoff, CISAT Distinguished Service Award
The Department of Psychology nominated Jeff Andre for the 2006 General Education Distinguished Teaching Award.
The Department of Psychology nominated Jim Benedict for the APF Brewer Outstanding Teacher Award.
The National Society of Collegiate Scholars nominated Steve Evans for the 2006 NSCS Faculty of the Year Award.
William Evans was the recipient of the JMU 2006 Bluestone Award for Outstanding Advising,
Arnie Kahn was nominated for membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars by the student leadership of the JMU chapter.
“Measuring Up: Educational Assessment Challenges and Practices for Psychology” has been selected as an Outstanding Academic Title for 2005 by Choice magazine, a periodical of the American Library Association. Michael Stoloff, Kevin Apple, Kenn Barron, Monica Reis-Bergan and Donna Sundre were the authors of the second chapter of this book. Measuring Up was included in a group of 682 works selected from 6,964 titles reviewed this year. According to Choice, award-winners comprise less than 10% of all titles reviewed by the magazine during the year and less than 3% of more than 23,000 titles submitted for review.
Pam Gibson was listed in Marquis Who’s Who and Who’s Who in American Education 7th Ed. 2006-2007.
Joann Grayson received the “2006 Champion of Children Award.” from Prevent Child Abuse Virginia. This award recognizes an individual or organization that has demonstrated a long-term commitment to and investment in Virginia ’s children and their families. Joann Grayson was nominated by JMU’s Council for Advancement and Support of Education for the U.S. Professors of the Year Award.
Sherry Serdikoff was selected to serve as a 2006 Assessment Fellow with the Center for Assessment and Research Studies at James Madison University.
Cheryl Talley was an invited participant on a “Minority Women in Science” panel from the JMU Centennial Scholars.
Tracy Zinn and Bryan Saville’s poster on Interteaching: Are quality points necessary? won the “Society for the Teaching of Psychology Outstanding Poster Award” when presented at the 18 th annual Southeastern Teaching of Psychology conference in Atlanta , GA..gif)
