Jeff Andre, Joann Grayson and Sherry Serdikoff served as Judges for the 2005 Shenandoah Valley Regional Science Fair.
Joann Grayson, Sherry Serdikoff and Natalie Kerr served as Judges for the Behavioral Sciences Division of the 2005 Virginia Junior Sciences and Humanities Symposium.
Kenn Barron was invited to serve on the Editorial Board for Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin for a two-year term
The Challenging Horizons Program, sponsored by Alvin Bard, and directed by Steve Evans was featured in an article in the Summer 2004 issue of Montpelier (pages 22-25).
Steve Evans has been asked to serve on the Professonal Advisory Board for Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD). The Challenging Horizons Program was featured in a 2-page article in a recent edition of Attention Magazine, the national publication of CHADD. For more information about this organization see http://www.chadd.org . Steve was also recently interviewed on Virginia Tonight, a PBS talk show.
Steve Evans has been appointed as an editor of the journal Report on Emotional & Behavioral Disorders in Youth beginning with the fall 2005 issue, Civic Research Institute, Kingston, N.J., He is also editing a special issue of the Journal of Attention Disorders on school mental health interventions for ADHD and has agreed to develop a book entitled, “Advances in School-Based Mental Health Interventions (Vol. 2)” to be edited by Evans, S.W., Weist, M., & Serpell, Z.N.
Joann Grayson has been asked by the Commissioner of Social Services for the Commonwealth of Virginia to serve on a joint Steering Committee of the Virginia Department of Social Services and Prevent Child Abuse Virginia. The group has developed a strategic plan for prevention of child abuse and neglect in Virginia.
Joann Grayson was asked permission for articles from the Virginia Child Protection Newsletter can be used to inform public policy decision making by the Select Committee on Children and Youth of the Tennessee General Assembly.
Michael Hall has continued to serve as acting Vice President of Psi Chi (Western Region), a position which includes coordinating, presenting in, and chairing sessions within the Psi Chi program at the annual meeting of the Western Psychological Association in April (in Portland, Oregon).
Arnie Kahn have been appointed the new Book Series Editor for The Society for the Psychology of Women (APA Division 35). He will solicit book-length manuscripts and work with APA to mold them into APA-published books comparable to those published in this series (see http://www.apa.org/divisions/div35/books.html ).
Natalie Kerr and Tracy Zinn published two editions of a Department of Psychology online teaching newsletter, The Pedagogy Post in November 2004 and April 2005. The latest newsletter is available at http://psychweb.cisat.jmu.edu/teachingnewsletter .
Aashir Nasim has been invited to join the Editorial Board of the Journal of Black Psychology, 2005-07.
Sherry Serdikoff serves as President of the Virgina Association for Behavior Analysis. Seventy-two people attended the organization’s first conference at JMU on March 5, 2005. Bryan Saville and Tracy Zinn served as program chairs.
Michael Stoloff served as the External Consultant for an Academic Program Review of the psychology program of the University of Charleston, Charleston, West Virginia, February, 2005.
Tracy Zinn serves as a Steering Committee Member for the “Engaging Minds: Best Practices in the Teaching of Critical Thinking” conference to be held in Atlanta, GA in October 2005.
Tracy Zinn serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Southeastern Association for Behavior Analysis (SEABA).
