Registration and Overrides

The Department of Psychology enforces all prerequisites during registration. You must submit a "Course Waiting List Form" for all overrides and prerequisite exceptions for undergraduate psychology courses. During the initial registration process each semester, when we are accepting course waiting list forms, the forms are available through a link announced on the home page, announcement section of this web site. During those timeperiods, they are also available in Johnston 223. During the initial registration period, overrides are handled by the Psychology Office. After classes begin, if you need an override, go to the first class you would like to take and ask the instructor for an override.

When courses are full, we will review waiting list request forms and try to accommodate as many students as possible. For some courses we may be able to add some additional sections. Overrides will generally not be available until the course adjustment period begins. If you submit a waiting list request, watch your e-mail; this will be the exclusive way we will inform students if additional classes are available or if overrides are granted.

This policy applies to all undergraduate Psychology courses except those that are listed as “instructor permission required” on E-campus. You should see the course instructor if you want to register for Psyc 290, 302, 401, 402, 495 or 499.

Students are encouraged to visit the Peer Advising Office (JO-113) and their Academic Advisers before registering for courses. Remember that Psychology courses tend to fill quickly, so it is an advantage to register at the soonest opportunity and pick suitable courses the first time. Try to find open courses that fit your interests and graduation requirements. Don't depend upon overrides to create your schedule.
