Department of Psychology

Recommended Electives for Psychology Majors

You need to complete 120 credit hours to earn a Bachelor's Degree at JMU. You will have 25-42 additional credit hours to complete after take your general education, degree, and psychology major courses. What courses will you take for these additional hours? Many students select a minor, and/or take some additional courses with the psychology major beyond the basic 38-hour requirement. Those are good choices. You should also consider taking courses outside of the psychology major or your minor as "free electives."

The following is a list of courses outside of the psychology department that faculty and students agree are of interest to students who enjoy psychology. Most of these courses have no prerequisites, but we have included a few courses that have prerequisite courses that many Psychology majors are likely to have already taken. Not every course is for everyone. The list is by no means complete. Many other courses offered at JMU will be of interest and would be recommended for you as an individual. We are providing this list to help you get started looking at some options.
