Overrides and Exceptions for Psyc Courses
Our online override and prerequisite exception form is no longer available. Any overrides that have been issued during the early registration period have expired. If you do not receive an override for the course that you would like to take, watch e-campus through the first week of school. Add courses for which you have the prerequisites if they become available. If you are still not in the class you would like to take when school begins, you are welcome to visit the first class meeting of the course you would like to take and ask the instructor for an override at that time. If you would like to take a course that is open for which you don’t have the prerequisites, contact the course instructor for special permission.
This policy applies to all summer and fall semester undergraduate psychology courses except those that are listed as “instructor permission required” in the schedule of classes. You should see the course instructor if you want to register for Psyc 290, 302, 401, 402, 495 or 499.
Students are encouraged to visit the Peer Advising Office (Miller 1106) and their Academic Advisors before registering for courses. Remember that psychology courses tend to fill quickly, so it is an advantage to register at the soonest opportunity and pick suitable courses the first time. Try to find open courses that fit your interests and graduation requirements. Don't depend upon overrides to create your schedule.
Regarding Psyc 210 & 212
Pre-Psychology student who would like to take Psyc 210 during the summer should submit an override request form during registration and apply to be a Psychology Major. On a space available basis, students who currently have high GPA’s will be granted an override into the summer section of Psyc 210. Admission to Psyc 210 does not guarantee admission to the Psychology Major. Applications for admission to the Psychology Major will be reviewed immediately after grades are posted for the Spring semester.
For the Fall semester, you must be an official accepted Psychology Major (not a Psychology-Preparation student) in order to register for Psyc 210 (Psychological Statistics). Students who want to enroll in Psyc 210 who are not currently Psychology Majors should apply to become a Psychology Major during the Spring semester. After grades are completed for the Spring Semester, your application to become a Psychology Major will be quickly reviewed, and you will be able to register for Psyc 210 in May.
Area Course Prerequisites
Completion of Psyc 211 or 213 is recommended before students take Psychology Area Courses (Psyc 330-395), because you are likely to be able to understand the content of these courses more deeply if you have a good working knowledge of research methodology before you study area course content. Some Area Courses have specific assignments that require you to have skills developed in our methods courses, so prerequisites are strictly enforced. For some Area Courses, if space is available, faculty will permit selected students to take their course concurrently with Psyc 211 or 213. Special permission is more likely if you are an advanced student and if you have had other prior experiences that are relevant to the course you want to take early (such as biology experience for Psyc 395 or behavior analysis experience for Psyc 390).
