Potential Careers

Psychology is the major to consider if you want to study the area of science that explores how people and animals think, feel, and act. The knowledge and abilities acquired in this major will enhance your “people skills.” After studying Psychology, you will better understand yourself, your family and friends, business acquaintances, and our social world. You will learn to interact more effectively with others. In addition, you will develop new library and Internet skills for information retrieval and learn how to critically evaluate information using the tools of science and statistics.

According to the American Psychological Association, Psychology is currently the second most popular undergraduate major in the United States (second only to business administration). This may be surprising given that undergraduate psychology is a liberal arts major, not a professional training program. “Psychology” jobs generally require a graduate degree.
