Is JMU Psychology right for you?
The goal of the JMU Psychology Major is to help students think like scientists about behavior. To accomplish this, our students develop skills by taking courses in a well-defined sequence. Students begin by taking general psychology, statistics, and research methods. Psychology Majors with this background then study the primary content of psychology by taking six “area courses.” Our program concludes with advanced courses that focus on content-in-depth, applications of psychology, and capstone courses that challenge students to apply what they have learned.
We offer a wide range of electives, and many opportunities to conduct research, participate in internships and field placements. Our students are well prepared for jobs that are appropriate for college graduates with liberal arts majors and for admission to graduate programs that prepare students for many professions.
