“Healing through Faith: A training conference for Liberian faith leaders in
the Diaspora.”
To be held March 7-8, 2008 at the Luther Seminary, 2481 Como Avenue, St. Paul, MN, USA 55108
Truth & Reconciliation Commission (TRC) public hearings are designed to establish an accurate record of human rights violations and set the basis for reconciliation after a conflict such as that experienced by South Africans during apartheid. In preparation for the commencement of TRC hearings for the Liberian Diaspora in the United States, The Advocates for Human Rights, Luther Seminary, and leaders from the Liberian community in Minnesota designed a conference ("Healing Through Faith") to prepare Liberian faith leaders to support their fellow Liberians during this emotionally volatile time. Katherine Luci, a second-year student in the Combined-Integrated doctoral psychology program here at JMU, was asked to
help facilitate a workshop on Pastoral Care and Counseling during this conference. Her contributions to the workshop will include training participants in basic counseling skills, attachment theory, trauma-related issues, and other special challenges faced by refugees and survivors of war. 02/18/08
