Child and Family Support Foundation Account
This is a foundation account we established for local, and now, global, support of children and families. For example, we have used contributions from this JMU Foundation account to help fund the annual children’s concert (with John Farrell), to create and distribute information about child abuse and neglect, and to make brochures and handouts for children, teachers, and parents about dealing with natural disasters and terrorist acts.
Tsumami Relief
We will also use donations to the Child and Family Support Foundation Account to purchase materials to use with children and families who are tsunami survivors in Sri Lanka. Dr. Anne Stewart was fortunate to be selected to participate in a relief trip to Sri Lanka organized by the Association for Play Therapy. The purpose of the trip is to provide play activities to children in orphanages and community centers who survived the tsunami. Anne will travel with a group of 8- 10 play therapists, departing February 3rd and return February 15th.
One team of three will visit villages in the region around Colombo. Another team will go to Batticaloa, Kalutara, and Galle. The third team is going to the Trincomalee area. We will be conducting activities and spending time with the children during the day and consulting with caregivers in the evenings.
Department of Graduate Psychology Foundation Account
Gifts to this account are used to support student and faculty research, service, and learning projects. Current projects include service to a rural mental health clinic, research to develop a neuropsychological screening test for children, and distance learning ‘collaboratories’ through which current students and alumni can advance their training in psychology. We also appreciate gifts with which to recognize special achievements by students and faculty. Please contact Department Head Dr. Sheena Rogers to learn more about support needs in the department.
