Biographical statement

I worked as Student Leadership Coordinator at JMU prior to obtaining my PhD at the University of Virginia. Then, after teaching in the Counseling Program at California State University, Fresno for two years I returned to JMU in 1999 to teach in the Counseling Psychology program. I'm married to Steve Grande, Director of Orientation at JMU, and have two magnificent children.

Scholarship

I am currently exploring child well-bleing in schools with colleagues Michele Kielty Briggs, Tammy Gilligan, and Kenn Barron. I am also working with Michele Briggs on a project to promote girls' self-esteem and leadership potential.

I am past president of the Virginia Counselors Association and the Virginia Association for Counselor Education and Sueprvision. I am also co-chair of the American Counseling Assocation National Awards Committee. I received The Department of Graduate Pscyhology's Distinguished Teaching Award and Distinguished Service Award.
