Biographical statement
Jack is a native of Kansas City and an ardent fan of the Chiefs football team. He attended Central Missouri State University and the University of Kansas for his undergraduate studies, and the University of Pittsburgh for his masters and doctorate degrees in Counselor Education. Besides his higher-ed teaching, Jack has been a warehouse worker, a line-worker in manufacturing plants, a retail store manager, a high school teacher and counselor, a psychiatric technician, and a mental health psychologist/case coordinator. His college teaching experience includes: The State University of New York at Brockport, Lyndon State College in Vermont, Middle Tennessee State University, and over 25 years at JMU. He lives in Staunton, Virginia with his wife Lin and daughter Kate. Staunton is a town that takes pride in being the location of the Woodrow Wilson Birthplace and Presidential Library, The Black Friar’s Shakespearian Playhouse (a replica of the original in England with its own nationally-known company), and hundreds of beautiful Victorian structures. Jack has been a writer of over 500 songs, and co-author of a number of professional books, book chapters and journal articles. He is most proud of his membership in the award-winning JMU Counseling Program, and grateful for his close and collaborative friendships with his colleagues.

My research interests include counselor education, artificial intelligence, cognitive psychology , and brief counseling.

Professional Service
I have received the National Award for Publication in Counselor Education from the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. I am also the recipient of the Distinguished Teaching Award and the Madison Scholar Award from the College of Education and Psychology.
