Biography

Prior to returning to my beloved JMU (indeed, I bleed ‘purple and gold’), I directed a leadership center at Rollins College and taught courses in leadership studies, women’s studies, and hunger & homelessness.  A return ‘home’ has my husband and I excited about four seasons, hikes in the Shenandoah Park, and geographical proximity to several big cities.

In my spare time, I am an avid reader, independent & foreign film fanatic, and restaurant connoisseur.  I am a happy, compassionate person who loves life and relishes relationships.

Teaching Interests & Program Affiliations

My primary role at James Madison University is with the Center for Faculty Innovation (www.jmu.edu/cfi); my work connects with and supports the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, service-learning and off-campus engagement, leadership learning, and the development and transition of early career faculty.

Formal teaching interests include leadership studies; organizational behavior; women’s studies; and qualitative theories and methodologies.  Informally, I enjoy facilitating sessions on meditation, mindfulness, and centering techniques.

Scholarship

My dissertation features the constructivist, grounded theory study of faculty members’ inner development when engaging in service-learning with undergraduates.  Research interests also include gender, culture and leadership; film and popular culture; and postmodern inquiry.
