Additional Summer Options

In addition to the Summer Institute workshops, JMU Counseling Programs will offer several 3-credit summer courses, including:

Psyc 630: Clinical Mental Health Counseling - meets Virginia LPC educational requirement for professional counseling identity, function, and ethics
This program does not qualify for NBCC credit

This 3-credit hour course, which involves both online and on-campus experiences, fulfills professional identity curriculum requirements for the LPC license. The training includes 3 workshops, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., on:
Friday May 19,
Friday June 2, and 
Friday June 16

Participants will also complete online assignments and engage in online discussions.  At the completion of this course, participants will be able to understand the professional identity of the mental health counselor, apply intentional interventions in mental health counseling practice, and address ethical and legal issues relevant for mental health counselors.
